About

Residing in Hawkes Bay new Zealand with my beautiful family, I paint the landscapes and the daily life around me.

Training

Born in 1992 and raised in Northland, New Zealand I grew up loving the simple life. At a young age I knew I wanted to be an artist and to learn to represent the beauty of nature via painting.

My training began in childhood when my mother bought me a book on how to draw horses. From there with practice, I continued to learn from incredible artists in books and online. I completed a year of training with an online atelier, to solidify my foundational skills, and continue to learn via workshops, sharing with other artists, and much practice.

Inspiration

I am inspired by pattern, by shapes, and compositions found in nature. I am inspired to learn to see our world as it really is. We see the world through a lens of what we already know. We know the grass is green, and we know the sky is blue, and so we see a green grass and a blue sky. But when I am out there I find that green is a name we give a thousand different colours, and the sky is a like a rainbow, wine blue to green yellow on the horizon. I believe Reality is the next frontier of painting. To learn to truly see our world, and to honestly represent that is what continues to inspire me and drives me to keep studying and learning.

Current Life

At this stage in my career the outdoors is my studio, and my painting backpack which contains all I need to paint. All we need do on a painting day is pick that up and walk out the door to explore. As a mum of four, living in a tiny house, homeschooling, and producing most of our food, I don’t have the space and time for a studio. Painting outside, painting whatever I find in front of me in a location the children can play freely and safely gives me that needed constraint to my creativity, freeing me mentally to be present and paint what I see.
